The Cup of Life
Is it full, is it empty...and what the heck are you drinking?
It occurred to me this morning that my life can be compared to a cup. I know, I know, why am I thinking of cups the first thing in the morning? Well, the answer is, I’d been asking for something to write about and I guess this was my answer (heheheehe), none the less, as I lay there, I pondered the old question, “Am I viewing my cup as half empty or half full”. Although it’s my belief that attitude and how I perceive something is hugely important to the quality of my life, I didn’t stop there. Within moments, it had become clear to me that this cup analogy thing could be a key to making life easier to swallow and much more enjoyable.
I asked myself some questions about my cup of life. Check em out and see what answers you come up with.
What is currently in my cup?
We know without a doubt, that there are countless beverages to fill a cup with in the world and there are equally countless experiences, people, feelings and possessions to fill our lives with. Why is it then that we tend to stick to “what we know” instead of venturing out to try new things that interest us more often? It’s no wonder we often get into a funk and feel bland or uninspired. I love milk, in fact, it’s one of my favorite drinks, but if that’s all I ever drank I’d be sick of it in no time. Allow yourself to go beyond the “norm” and experience more of the exciting flavors and choices that the world has to offer. Let your imagination and passion guide you. It could be as easy as going to the grocery store.
Who’s filling my cup? When I was a kid, my mom was the one who filled my cup everyday. Often times, what got poured in, was NOT what I wanted to drink at all. I didn’t have much of a choice then, but now, I’m the decider of my life. Nobody can force me to drink or live my life in any particular way unless I allow them to. Our lives are filled with many strong influences i.e.; society, family, etc. Check in regularly to make sure that what you’re “drinking” into your life is actually stuff that you are choosing! Hint: if you don’t like it…it’s probably not YOU!
How much of the “good stuff” am I allowing myself to drink? Maybe you’re like me and you already get how important it is to drink up “the good stuff”, but even so, how much of the “good stuff “are you allowing yourself? Is the “good stuff” only allowed in after all the work is done? Weekends? When you are rich enough, skinny enough, exhausted enough, fed up enough? Make sure to let the “good stuff” into everyday of your life, even if it’s only in small doses at first. Let yourself take that much needed rest, go to lunch with a friend, or read that book that you’ve been putting off. Don’t wait around for “special occasions” because everyday is a special occasion! You are alive and on this earth having a human experience. You deserve it!!!
Changing cups…creating the best container for the beverage. You wouldn’t put coffee in a wine glass because it might break and burn your hand. The universe uses this same wisdom where our lives are concerned. Sometimes, in order to have the things we want, a change in our life is necessary first. Not all of our current life situations will support the dreams we are dreaming. If you’ve always wanted to live by the ocean but your job keeps you in Kansas, your life must change in order to manifest your desire. Your cup must get emptied, at least partially in order to make room for the new. Typically, when our life gets emptied of something, even if it was something that we weren’t too fond of, the tendency is to panic i.e.; a job, relationship, or item. If only our first thought in these situations could be, “Cool….now I get to fill my cup with something new and exciting!” The thing is that… well….it’s the truth! ( Here’s where the whole “half empty or half full thing” comes in). The universe has a way of manifesting our desires in far better ways then we can imagine. Next time your life changes, even if it seems scary in the moment, believe that it’s only the universe working to create the optimal “cup” to fit your desires and embrace the change with open arms!!
My cup of life has definitely changed a lot lately, along with many of the contents that used to fill it. I have to admit there were moments of fear when I couldn’t see what would fill the HUGE vacancy, but I didn’t let that fear stop me. Instead I pressed forward, trusting my dreams were on their way and guess what… it was true. All I wished for has arrived and I ‘m feeling as happy as a clam in my new life. The smile on my face is proof of that!
Trust that the universe has your back and get to work filling your cup with all the joy, adventure, friendship, and passion you can dream of!!
Have a great week!
Love, Misty
